Bargain Hunt is a retail discount store headquartered just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. They have 88 stores in 10 states, all within a 400-mile radius of Nashville with over 2,000 employees, and are among the fastest-growing companies in the United States. They specialize in buying excess products from the nation’s largest retailers and manufacturers to provide their customers with a continually changing assortment of quality goods at deep discounts. Their retail locations average anywhere from 25,000 – 30,000 square feet in size, and warehouses up to 800,000 square feet in size.
BARGAIN HUNT’S NEED FOR AN INTEGRATED SECURITY SYSTEM
When Jacob Long, Project Manager, joined Bargain Hunt, they had 80 stores and 40 different security/intrusion vendors. Per Long, “You never knew what the policy was to perform a simple task like adding and removing people, or just needing to make a change.” The delay in adding employee security codes to other store’s systems was a big problem for Bargain Hunt because, according to Long, they have a culture where stores help each other out.

Store managers and teammates frequently go to different stores to help out when necessary. Having 40 different security/intrusion vendors made it very difficult for employees to promptly help out neighboring stores. Per Long, “For us to get someone’s user code into a different system, it took up to 10 – 12 days. So, imagine telling someone, oh no, you cannot go help them out because it’s going to take ten days, or I need ten days’ notice. That does not work in retail.”

Some of the features of their new integrated system are seeing the details of all their security measures in one place and access the system remotely (so no need to be on-site). Drivers can now deliver goods outside of store hours and disarm the system without giving them codes to gain entry for delivery. Also, whenever a door opens, the access control system alerts the cameras to record footage automatically so they will have a visual record of who entered the building with the exact time and point of entry.
